AASHTO’s 86th SCOHT National Meeting
On June 15-17, AASHTO’s Subcommittee on Highway Transport held its 86th Annual Meeting this
year in Burlington Vermont, hosting an audience of over 85 participants. This year, the subcommittee was
joined by the Special Committee on Transportation Security. Both committees have a shared interest in
the overall safety of trucks, the roads they travel on, and their loads. Specifically, Hazmat, Size & Weight,
Special Permitting, Hours of Service, and overall Enforcement were areas that both committees found crucial
in safeguarding the Interstate and its rural roads.

AASHTO/FHWA Freight Transportation Partnership Conference
On April 25-27 2005 AASHTO and the Federal Highway Administration assembled the first meeting of state DOT
freight officials, FHWA Division Office freight staff, and U.S. DOT headquarters staff in Columbus, Ohio.
The conference was put together in order to begin a dialogue and to facilitate communication between the
FHWA Division Offices and State DOT personnel who are responsible for freight transportation.

AASHTO’s Water Committee in New Orleans
On August 28-31 the AASHTO’s Standing Committee on Water Transportation, chaired by Larry “Butch” Brown,
Executive Director of the Mississippi DOT, meet in New Orleans, Louisiana for it's Annual Water meeing.
The Heartland Intermodal Partnership (HIP) also particapated in a Joint session with SCOWT, HIP is a
coalition of senior public and private sector professionals from across 24 states, of the nation’s
heartland. Its mission is to support economic competitiveness of the region’s business, industry
and labor by improving intermodal transportation.
