Patricia A. McDonald was appointed Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Transportation on January 9, 2003, by Governor James Douglas.

Born in Summit, New Jersey, she became a Vermont resident in 1988 following a nineteen-year career with CIBA-GEIGY Corporation, a leading chemical manufacturer headquartered in Ardsley, New York. While employed by CIBA-GEIGY she held several key managerial and administrative positions within the corporate and Ardsley site Human Resources offices and the Office of General Counsel. After relocating to Vermont, she was employed by the Merchants Bank for three and one-half years and served in the capacity of Vice President, Human Resources and Regulatory Management. She previously served as Commissioner of Personnel (1991 to 1993, 2000 to 2003) and as Commissioner of Motor Vehicles (1994 to 2000). She has also served as Deputy Commissioner of Education.

Ms. McDonald currently resides in Berlin, Vermont. She is a former member of the Berlin Select Board and Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission. She is married to Captain J. Bruce McDonald, Retired, Vermont State Police and has a daughter, two stepsons, and two grandsons.
